Comments

The common Motmot of northern Pacific lowlands and foothills is the national bird of Nicaragua and El Salvador. Note the large area of featherless shaft on central rectrices. Its habit of wagging its tail has been interpreted as a signal that the bird is aware of a predator and is likely to escape, avoiding a useless pursuit.
